Oncolink Project
The issue of consequences of treating adults with cancer is a relatively new concept to many people, we need acknowledgement that consequences of cancer and its treatment are “part of the cancer story” in the minds of patients, professionals and commissioners.
The Users Representatives in the project feel that there is a need to test the feasibility & acceptability of self assessment triggering tailored information about consequences of treatment at an early stage while a UK “gold standard” Information Solution is being developed. To this end, we are working with Penn State University to test the use of the Livestrong survivorship care planning tool, which produces a simple treatment record and information prescription suitable for an American population. We aim to have feedback from 50 professionals and 1000 patients by July 2010.
This work will inform the creation of the strategy for making appropriate information on consequences of treatment available to all cancer survivors, and will define the requirements for an information delivery tool. It will also enable us to demonstrate the costs/benefits of alternative solutions and make recommendations to commissioners and professionals.
