National Cancer Survivorship Initiative

Cancer Survivors Have Their Say

Friday, July 16th, 2010

There is growing evidence that people living with cancer gain considerable benefit from becoming involved in managing their own condition.  However, if they are to do this successfully they need the right information about their condition and the potential consequences of their treatment to better manage their ongoing needs post treatment.

The consequences of treatment project group have been piloting an online care planning tool for the UK and early indications show a very positive reaction:

  • 84.2% confirmed that the care plan was worth doing
  • Importantly a further 71.6% have said that they learnt something new
  • 77.4% of applicants agreed or strongly agreed that they would recommend the care planning tool to someone else
  • 83.2% would support the use of a similar online care planning tool for the consequences of cancer treatment in the UK

The project will be collecting data until the end of July, so if you are a cancer survivor and you havent had your say you can do so via the 1000 People Project page.
