National Cancer Survivorship Initiative

Invitation to test Survivorship Pilot Survey Questionnaire

Friday, February 4th, 2011

‘Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for Cancer’ published on 12 January set out that the NCSI will pilot a survey of  cancer survivors in 2011.  The aim is to improve understanding of health related quality of life outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer and how services can meet their needs.

The NCSI are currently looking for people living with and beyond cancer to help cognitive testing of the questionnaire that will be used in the pilot survivorship survey in early 2011.  The pilot will cover people who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and non Hodgkin’s  lymphoma. The survey will be sent to people who were diagnosed with one of these cancers either one, two, three or five years ago.

The purpose of the cognitive testing is to make sure that the survey covers all the issues that are important to cancer survivors and to test whether questions are understood clearly.

We are therefore keen to engage with people who have been diagnosed with one of the four cancer groups (breast, prostate, colorectal and non Hodgkin’s lymphoma) who have had a first diagnosis of cancer in the last five years.  We need volunteers from all age groups, backgrounds, and areas in England, but we want to ensure representation from:

  • 16-40 year olds
  • Participants from ethnic minority backgrounds
  • Male participants

The testing of the questionnaire is planned for March.  Volunteers will be sent the draft questionnaire by post and will then be contacted by phone to make arrangements for a telephone interview.

If you are interested in participating please contact Emma Moore at Quality Health  to register your interest and availability by no later than Friday 18 February.

Thank you for your help in improving cancer services for everyone.
