Self Employment and Cancer Booklet

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Health professionals and employers can now order a new booklet to help self employed cancer patients manage their work and finances.

There are approximately 65,000 self-employed people living with cancer in the UK. Macmillan has produced a booklet to inform self-employed people about the potential impact of cancer on their ability to work and the financial problems that may arise. It also provides practical tips on how they can manage their business through cancer.

91% of cancer patients say their households suffer loss of income or increased costs as a direct result of cancer. As part of effective assessment and care planning, health professionals need access to high quality financial information to be able to correctly signpost their patients. To this end, Macmillan is encouraging health professionals to use this booklet as an information resource for cancer patients both during their treatment and afterwards as they consider returning to work.

The ‘Self-Employment and Cancer’ booklet is part of a range of ‘Work and Cancer’ resources (listed below) for patients and employers available to order free from the be.macmillan website.
