National Cancer Survivorship Initiative

Competencies

One of the assessment and care planning priorities is to review and develop training programmes for those who carry out holistic needs assessments and create care plans for cancer survivors.  The training will help to ensure consistency and quality in approaches to assessment and care planning across the country.

Motivational Interviewing Skills

During testing with NHS Improvement of a Risk Stratified care pathway it was identified that Motivational Interviewing skills have proved to be a benefit to staff who are undertaking assessments on a regular basis. The interviewing skills help staff to support and motivate people to seek their own solutions to problems, empowering and motivating people to make lifestyle changes and enable self management. Course details and project report available.

There are several courses available for Motivational Interview Training and a list of providers can be found at www.motivationalinterviewing.org .
