Associated Projects
These projects are funded by Macmillan but are closely associated with the work of the NCSI.
Working Through Cancer
Macmillan is driving a 3 year Working Through Cancer (WTC) Programme. The programme incorporates:
- The lead role Macmillan is taking on the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative Work and Finance Projects
- Campaigning and Influencing to raise awareness of cancer as a disability under the Equality Act 2010 and the protection and entitlements the Act provides both for cancer patients and carers.
The purpose of this project is to bring together a sustainable package of support for Macmillan’s corporate partners and large private sector employers that will improve workplace support for people affected by cancer and support organisations. It will also enable their HR teams and managers to develop their internal capability to provide this support.
Work and Cancer Survey
During 2010 and 2011 Macmillan has commissioned Manchester University to conduct a large scale population survey to gain a better understanding of the return to work experiences of cancer patients.
Finding a Clearer Path: Evaluation of the Pathways to Work Programme
This study, conducted by Matrix Knowledge Group for Macmillan Cancer Support, explored the extent to which the Jobcentre Plus Pathways to Work (PtW) scheme and the NHS-run Condition Management Programmes are effective in helping people with cancer get back to work. The resulting report casts doubt on whether PtW is meeting the needs of people living with cancer – available to download below.
